Keeping up a practise on the road

Self Practise on the Road.

Before we left the UK I had a pretty regimented morning routine!

-Wake up 6.30

-Breathwork and a brew 7.00

-Read and Journal 7.30

-Yoga 8.00

-Breakfast and Start the day.

That was my routine, that's how I liked it and that's what I struggled to let go of when we hit the road.

As you know we began our journey in Frank the T4 and also with some really bad weather in Germany. My plans of rolling my mat out by a Lake as the sun rose, quickly went out of the window when it was torrential rain and freezing cold! So I had to adapt and that was something I really really struggled with at first! My morning routine had become such a part of me and a way to clear my mind and really set me up for the day. I felt agitated without it! I battled with it at first climbing out of the bed and into the front seat to do my breath work, reading and journaling. Then waiting for Marco to get up, put the bed away and then have a cup of tea and some breakfast.

But the frustration of having it not being perfect really started to get to me and also not having the freedom to stretch and move my body as I wanted. But I knew it was a small part of the whole adventure and something I had to do as a person to learn and grow. LET IT GO! Stop being so hard on myself if i’m not doing my routine each morning, change it up, enjoy sleeping in, if the weather's good wake up for that sunrise, if its not you can do some breathwork later on in the day when the bed is away. Being on the road isn’t about having a routine or a plan it's about living in the moment and that's what I need to realise with my self practise. Do the things that fill me with joy and help put me in a better mood whenever I can or whenever I feel like it. Don’t force myself to be stuck into the routine and stress myself out when I can’t do it.

That being said fast forward a few months, change Frank the T4 for Henry the Hymer, change rain in Germany to Sun in Spain and my morning routine and self practise has become a beautiful thing! With the warmer weather here i'm able to wake up for sunrise, roll out my mat, breathe, move, meditate and embrace the space I have outside! If the weather is not great I can make it work in Henry, hey i’ve even taught live yoga classes inside Henry! Anything is possible if you want it enough and you let go of the boundaries and the structure.

I’ve realised I don’t necessarily need a morning routine, I just need to continue to do things that fill me with joy in the simplest way possible!

….and just LET IT GO!
